Don't just take our word for it - hear what others have to say about the benefits of goat milk for pets.
As told by Maureen ….
Over forty years ago we got our first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lady Jemma. It was at her first litter that trouble brewed. Jemma had a caesarean, then a serious eclampsia attack which paralysed her from the waist down. We rushed her back to the vet. In those days they put her into Icy water. She didn’t rally and was sent home to die. The trauma of that has never left me. Five puppies I fed with tiny Hansel bottles. Each day they came to work with me. My babies.
When time came, one of her daughters, Royale Ruby, had a litter. She too got eclampsia. This time they saved Ruby but I decided that day, I would not breed anymore with this line. I kept a darling wee pup we named Amelia. Amelia went to our shop everyday as she was born with a poor heart (not Mitrial Heart disease). Amelia went on to live until she was about 12 years old. Even though she was in a terrible car accident. That little hero survived another 4 years. No medication back then.
Many years passed before I was ready for another Cavalier. Then we re-homed Molly. She was an older Cavalier with no records of age or past. Just many puppies. Within six months, she ended up in a movie made here in Te Aroha. Real Cowboy. She was a star. She became Molly Monroe. Her ease at film work was outstanding. Sadly she passed away before the film was released for the Film Festival. It won many awards overseas.
We missed her. I knew I couldn’t wait too long for another Cavalier.
But there was a problem. Gemma had had Pyometra and was lucky to have pulled through. Yes, she had a bad heart. I was determined I would make a difference to her life. She had been started on Vetmedin and had had X-rays, showing her enlarged heart. Our vet here graded her condition Grade 5. That was not good.
So I got up early, five o clock in the morning researching what I could do to help her.
I chanced on Dr Judy Morgan. A holistic vet from USA . A god send. She was a cavalier lover. Each day she had videos reaching out worldwide. You could ask questions and Dr Judy replied. AMAZING help. Dr Judy had a dog called Pookie. The love of her life. She shared Pookie’s treatment with me. GOAT MILK was her life saver.
So that very morning I found a source. The lady kindly gave me some. I froze quite a bit into tiny muffin tins. Each morning Gemmie would have one with some warm water in it. That milk was like GOLD - Gemmie began to improve . Eventually we took her to the dog heart testing at Ardmore. The cardiologist graded her at a 2.
Gemmie lived another 4 ½ years of quality years. Yes she did die of a pulmonary embolism caused by her heart condition, but the goat milk gave her a chance to survive. She was the most beautiful dog, with such courage.
If her life can make a difference to other cavaliers then it is worth telling her story. Dr Judy Morgan, Goat milk, Pup loaf and Vetmedin made a huge difference. Alongside of that the wonderful vets here in Te Aroha making such great medical decisions for her welfare.
Why Goat Milk ? Goat milk is rich in Taurine great for the heart.
When we knew Gemmie was dying, we got her a friend. Dear little Willa. Gemmie and Willa became inseparable.
Willa came from Glengarrif Kennels and soon another little mate arrived, Meg (aka Glengarrif Carys). Meg settled in well. The most loving wee rascal. So special. Willa loves her.
Meg had had puppies last year, teeth out and then came to live with us. I noticed a red allergy all over her beautiful face. Meg came into season in the middle of a hot humid summer. We had both dogs to the vet. I tried everything to no avail. Meg’s allergy was awful.
When family had gathered around one Sunday I showed them the allergy. I had researched using goat milk to treat it. So the Goat milk story unfolds. This lovely cousin had a goat farm. So Willa and Meg visited Farmer Ned’s to get their new supply. Each morning they have a small bowl with about 1/4 cup each, with warm water. You guessed it...Meg’s allergy is getting better. Willa had had an awful Kennel Cough type flu which is also getting better.
Both dogs look forward to the milk coming from the fridge. They can smell its freshness. They jump and squeal with joy as a bowl with a little warm water and milk is put down for them. That followed by a bowl of raw food. Rabbit is their favourite, with veges and supplements.
When I was a youngster I was one of the first children to become a Hamilton Junior Naturalist. Why is that important? I learnt about the Flora of New Zealand and the wonderful herbal plants we can harness.
After a long time teaching and now retired, I am about to launch a new brand of herbal remedies for our special dogs. It will be known as Willa & Meg. My human soaps will be from The Miners Cottage. Many incorporating Goat Milk and other ingredients that I know are soothing, gentle and truly natural with Willa and Meg trying out everything for you and your precious pooches.
